FAQs
Superalloy scrap recycling: what sellers ask before they send material
What counts as superalloy scrap?
Superalloys are nickel-, cobalt- and iron-based alloys built to keep their strength at very high temperatures, such as Inconel, Hastelloy, Waspaloy, Rene and Stellite. Superalloy scrap includes turbine blades and vanes, engine casings, turnings, grindings, offcuts, revert and rejected parts. We also buy the titanium and tungsten carbide scrap that often comes from the same aerospace and machining sources.
How can I tell which alloy my scrap is?
The quickest way is an XRF analyzer reading, which shows the nickel, cobalt, chromium and other content. Many superalloys look identical to stainless steel, but their value is very different, especially when they contain rhenium, tantalum or hafnium. Send us a photo and the readout, and we’ll identify the grade before you price it anywhere else.
What is superalloy scrap worth?
It depends on the alloy grade, the nickel and cobalt content, whether it contains rhenium or other minor metals, the form (solids, turnings or grindings), contamination such as oil or mixed alloys, and the market price on the day. Turbine blades with rhenium can be worth many times more than ordinary nickel alloy turnings. We price every lot on its analysis.
Do you buy whole jet engines, or only sorted alloys?
Both. We buy complete jet engines, modules and casings, as well as sorted blades, vanes, solids and turnings. Unsorted aerospace scrap metal is fine to send. We handle teardown and segregation, so mixed lots don’t need to be separated by alloy first.
Why sell superalloy scrap to Oryx Metals instead of a general scrap buyer?
General buyers often price superalloys as stainless or mixed nickel scrap and miss the value of rhenium, cobalt and tantalum. Oryx Metals has specialised in high temperature alloys and minor metals for over 20 years, and sells to the refiners and melt shops that pay for each alloy’s actual content. That’s how we can offer a stronger price on turbine blades, revert and aviation scrap, with logistics, export and customs handled.
What do you need to give me a price on my alloy scrap?
A photo of the material, an XRF readout or alloy certificate if you have one, the form, the approximate quantity and where it’s located. Send it through our pricing form or message us on WhatsApp or WeChat. A metals specialist replies within 24 hours with a price or the questions we need answered.
