HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Metal hydroxide sludge and grinding sludge recycling FAQ

What metal-bearing sludge do you buy?

Metal hydroxide sludge from plating, finishing and wastewater plants containing nickel, copper, tin, cobalt or chromium, tungsten carbide and tungsten grinding sludge, nickel and cobalt process sludges, polishing and lapping sludge from optics and wafers, and precious metal sludges.

How do I know if my sludge is worth recycling?

It depends on which metals it contains and at what level on a dry basis. A lab analysis on a dried sample is the first step. Many sellers are surprised to find their sludge can be sold rather than paid for. Send the analysis and the annual volume.

How is carbide sludge recycling priced?

On the dry tungsten and cobalt content, minus moisture, oil, coolant and abrasive from the grinding wheel. Carbide sludge with low abrasive content earns better terms. Oryx makes each offer from your analysis.

Does sludge need to be dried before shipping?

Not always, but water is weight you pay to ship and it is deducted from the value. Filter-pressing or drying usually improves the net return. Some sludges are classed as hazardous waste and need permits, which we arrange with you.

Can we set up a regular outlet for our plant’s sludge?

Yes. Most sludge sellers produce a steady volume. We agree an analysis routine, pricing formula and collection schedule, so the sludge leaves site regularly without a new negotiation each time.

What does Oryx Metals do differently with sludge?

Most sludge goes to a waste contractor by default. Oryx Metals looks first at the metal content, finds a refiner that can recover it and turns a disposal cost into a payment wherever the chemistry allows, including grinding sludge recycling for tool makers.
