Metal fines are small particles with full metal value

Metal fines are the small particles left when metal is machined, crushed, screened or handled: short swarf, screening undersize, off-spec powder and alloy fines. Because they are small, oily or oxidised, they are often rejected by melters that want solids. With the right processing, metal fines can still be recycled for the full value of the metals they contain.

FORMS WE BUY

Metal fines and swarf we buy

Fine silver-gray superalloy and refractory metal machining chips, including curled shavings and small metallic fragments, collected in an industrial steel tray.

Ferroalloy fines

FeMo, FeV, FeNb and FeW screenings

Fine gray metal powder with oxidized brown patches, coarse granules and clumped particles collected in a round industrial metal tray.

Off-spec metal powder

Out-of-spec, oxidised or contaminated powder

Crushed carbide fragments and dark gray metallic powder with angular particles and fine granules collected in an industrial steel bin.

Carbide fines

Crushed carbide and carbide powder

Fine metallic particles and crushed fragments falling from industrial screening equipment into a collection bin during material sizing operations.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Metal fines and swarf recycling FAQ

What metal fines do you buy?

Fine machining swarf from superalloys and refractory metals, titanium sponge fines and fine titanium swarf, ferroalloy fines such as FeMo, FeV, FeNb and FeW, off-spec and oxidised metal powders, carbide fines, and screening undersize from crushing and sizing lines.

Is swarf recycling worth it if the swarf is oily?

Usually yes. Oil and coolant are deducted from the weight, and the swarf can be cleaned or processed by a refiner that handles oily material. Draining swarf before shipping improves the net value.

How are metal fines priced?

On the metal content, the degree of oxidation, oil and moisture, and the cost of processing a fine material, against the market for the main metals. Clean, single-alloy fines earn more than mixed or oxidised fines. Oryx makes each offer from your analysis.

Are some metal fines a fire risk?

Yes. Fine titanium, zirconium, hafnium, magnesium and some other metal fines can ignite. They must be stored dry or under the agreed medium and shipped in sealed steel drums under the right classification. We confirm requirements before collection.

Can you take fines from several alloys in one shipment?

Yes, if they are kept in separate, labelled containers. Mixing fines of different alloys lowers the value of the whole lot.

Why sell metal fines to Oryx Metals?

Melters often reject fines, and general yards pay little for them. Oryx Metals finds refiners and processors that can use fine material, pays on content and handles safe packing, so your fines are not discounted just for their size.
