Indium recycling starts with spent ITO targets

Most indium is used as indium tin oxide, the transparent conductive layer in flat panel displays and touchscreens. ITO is applied by sputtering, and only part of each target ends up on the glass, so spent targets, chamber shields and cleaning residues hold a large share of the indium that was bought. Indium solders, thermal interface foils and indium phosphide wafers add further streams. Recycling them recovers indium at a fraction of the energy of primary production.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Indium recycling and indium scrap price questions

What indium scrap do you buy for indium recycling?

Spent ITO sputtering targets (planar or rotary, with or without backing plates), ITO-coated chamber shields, indium metal, indium solders and foils, indium phosphide wafers, CIGS scrap, and indium-bearing powders, sludges and etch residues.

Do targets still bonded to the backing plate have value?

Yes. Bonded targets are common. The backing plate, usually copper or titanium, is removed during processing, and its weight and the bonding material are taken into account in the offer. Tell us the backing plate type and send a photo.

What decides the indium scrap price?

Indium content, the form, the share of tin, backing plates or bonding solder, and the indium market on the day. Clean indium metal and spent ITO targets are worth more than mixed residues. Because these factors vary so much between lots, Oryx prices every lot on its own analysis.

Is sputtering target recycling different from selling scrap metal?

A little. Target makers sometimes run take-back programmes, but those usually credit only the target you bought from them. Sputtering target recycling through Oryx covers targets from any supplier, partial lots and other indium scrap from the same plant, so everything can leave in one shipment.

Can we sell indium scrap from a display or panel plant in Asia?

Yes. Many of our indium sellers are panel makers and trading companies in Asia. We provide a written offer, agree delivery terms, and handle export documentation, so material can ship directly from your plant or your consolidation warehouse.

How does Oryx Metals handle indium scrap differently?

Oryx Metals focuses on minor metals such as indium and works directly with refiners that process ITO and indium residues. We look at each lot on its real indium content, including backing plates and residues others ignore, and give you one offer for the whole stream instead of chasing separate buyers.
