Rhodium recycling: the most valuable metal in many alloys
Rhodium is rarely used alone. It strengthens platinum in glass fibre bushings, thermocouples and nitric acid gauze, provides a hard, bright finish in rhodium plating and is used in some chemical catalysts and coatings. Because rhodium is so scarce and its price so high, even a few percent in an alloy or a small volume of plating solution is worth recovering through rhodium recycling.

FAQs
Rhodium recycling and rhodium scrap price FAQ
What rhodium scrap do you buy for rhodium recycling?
Platinum-rhodium bushings, baseplates and sheet, Type R, S and B thermocouple wire, spent rhodium plating solutions, sputtering targets, rhodium sponge and powder, and rhodium-bearing process residues. Rhodium catalysts are covered on our PGM Catalyst page.
How do I know how much rhodium is in my alloy?
Common platinum-rhodium alloys are 10 or 20 percent rhodium, and thermocouple types tell you the grade. For bushings and mixed alloys, the producer’s records or an assay give the exact figure. We confirm it by assay before settlement.
What drives the rhodium scrap price?
The assayed rhodium content, the rhodium price on the agreed date and refining charges, which are higher for rhodium than for platinum or palladium. Rhodium prices are volatile, so agreeing the pricing date matters. Oryx states all terms in a written offer.
Is a small amount of rhodium plating solution worth selling?
Usually yes. Rhodium plating baths hold rhodium in solution at high value per litre. Send the volume, concentration and photos of the containers, and we will advise on packing.
Can you settle in metal instead of cash for rhodium?
In some cases, yes. Glass fibre producers and other users who need metal back can discuss metal return terms. Otherwise, settlement is by wire after assay.
Why sell rhodium-bearing scrap to Oryx Metals?
With rhodium, assay accuracy and refining terms decide most of the outcome. Oryx Metals agrees sampling and assay methods up front, works with PGM refiners experienced in rhodium and gives you a clear written offer before anything ships.
