FAQs

Precious metal recycling: what industrial sellers ask before they send material

What kinds of precious metal scrap do you buy?

We buy industrial scrap and residues that contain gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium or ruthenium. That includes electrical contacts, plated parts, thermocouple wire, crucibles and bushings, coated titanium anodes, sputtering targets, spent PGM catalysts, and low-grade sweeps, dusts and sludges.

How do I know if my scrap contains precious metals?

Many precious-metal-bearing materials look ordinary. Coated anodes look like plain titanium, plated parts look like base metal, and sweeps look like dust. An XRF reading or lab assay is the quickest way to know. Send us a photo and any analysis you have, and we’ll tell you what’s worth recovering.

How is precious metal scrap priced?

Pricing is based on the assayed content of each precious metal, the market price on the day, and the cost of recovering it from the material it sits in. Solid alloys like platinum-rhodium wire are priced close to metal value. Low-grade residues and coatings carry higher refining costs, so we sample and assay every lot before a final offer.

Do you buy low-grade material such as sweeps, dusts and sludges?

Yes. Low-grade residues are often where the most value goes unrecovered, because many buyers only take solid scrap. We’ll review the analysis and quantity and tell you honestly whether it’s worth refining, and on what terms.

Why sell precious metal scrap to Oryx Metals?

Oryx Metals focuses on complex, mixed and contaminated materials that general precious metal buyers often price cautiously or reject. We’ve specialised in minor metals and high temperature alloys for over 20 years, and work with refiners that recover PGMs and precious metals from difficult materials. That means an offer based on what your scrap actually contains, with sampling, assay, logistics and customs handled.

What do you need to give me an offer?

A photo of the material, an analysis or spec sheet if you have one, the approximate quantity and where it’s located. Send it through our pricing form or message us on WhatsApp or WeChat. A metals specialist replies within 24 hours with an indicative price or the questions we need answered.
