Tungsten scrap is too valuable to sell as mixed metal
Tungsten is one of the densest and hardest-wearing metals in industry, used in heavy alloy counterweights, radiation shielding, lighting and electronics wire, welding electrodes and furnace parts. Because it is so dense, a small drum of tungsten scrap carries real value, yet it often ends up in mixed loads where nobody is paid for its tungsten content. Separated and sold to a specialist buyer, used tungsten goes back to refiners and returns to the supply chain.

FAQs
Tungsten recycling questions from scrap sellers
What kind of tungsten scrap can I sell for tungsten recycling?
Most forms of tungsten scrap: heavy alloy counterweights and shielding, pure tungsten rod, plate and sheet, wire and filament, welding electrodes, tungsten copper parts, turnings, grindings and powders. Tungsten carbide has its own page and its own pricing, so keep carbide separate from tungsten metal when you can.
How do I tell tungsten from tungsten carbide or lead?
Weight is the first clue: tungsten and heavy alloy are much heavier than steel and noticeably heavier than lead, and they do not mark or dent easily. Heavy alloy with iron in it is slightly magnetic. Carbide is brittle and chips rather than bends. An XRF reading settles it, so send us a photo and the readout if you have one.
What affects the tungsten scrap price?
The tungsten content, the form, and contamination. Clean pure tungsten and high-grade heavy alloy solids are worth the most, while oxidised powders, mixed turnings and material with steel or brazing attached are priced lower. The tungsten market moves too, so Oryx quotes on your analysis and the market on the day rather than a fixed price list.
Do you buy small lots of tungsten scrap?
Yes. Tungsten is dense, so even a few drums can be worth shipping. Small lots from machine shops and scrap yards are welcome, and larger producers can set up regular collections.
What happens after I send you details of my tungsten scrap?
We review your photos and analysis, ask about anything unclear and send a written offer. Once you accept, we arrange collection or delivery, weigh and sample on arrival, and pay by wire. For sellers outside the US, we agree the delivery point and handle the export paperwork.
Why sell tungsten scrap to Oryx Metals instead of a local yard?
A general yard often buys tungsten as mixed heavy metal and pays for weight, not content. Oryx Metals specialises in minor metals, works directly with tungsten refiners and grades each lot on its tungsten content, so separated tungsten scrap is paid as tungsten. You get a written offer, clear grading and logistics handled from your door.
