Mixed-Metal Catalyst

Oryx Metals buys spent cobalt molybdenum catalyst and other mixed-metal hydroprocessing catalysts, including CoMo, NiMo and NiW, and pays for every recoverable metal. Send your analysis for a written offer.

Mixed-metal catalysts carry several payable metals in one lot

Most refinery hydroprocessing catalysts combine two active metals on an alumina carrier: cobalt molybdenum (CoMo) for desulfurisation, nickel molybdenum (NiMo) for denitrogenation and hydrocracking pretreat, and nickel tungsten for hydrocracking. In service they also collect vanadium and nickel from the crude. A single spent catalyst lot can therefore contain molybdenum, cobalt, nickel, vanadium and tungsten, all of which can be recovered.

FORMS WE BUY

Mixed-metal catalysts we buy

Spent cobalt-molybdenum hydrotreating catalyst extrudates with dark carbon deposits, oily surfaces, and broken cylindrical pellets collected in a rusted industrial steel container.

CoMo catalyst

Spent cobalt molybdenum hydrotreating catalyst

Spent nickel-molybdenum hydrotreating catalyst pellets with porous surfaces in dark gray and greenish tones collected in a heavy-duty refinery recycling bin.

NiMo catalyst

Spent nickel molybdenum hydrotreating catalyst

Spent nickel-tungsten hydrocracking catalyst extrudates with blackened surfaces, visible refinery deposits, and broken multi-hole cylindrical pieces inside an industrial steel container.

NiW catalyst

Nickel tungsten hydrocracking catalyst

Mixed refinery reactor catalyst containing ceramic guard rings, cylindrical extrudates, spherical pellets, and granular material in different colors collected in an industrial steel drum.

Graded bed loads

Mixed reactor beds with guard and active layers

Heavily fouled hydroprocessing catalyst pellets, broken extrudates, and carbon-coated fragments with visible wear and degradation collected in a steel recycling container.

Regeneration rejects

Catalyst too worn or fouled to regenerate

Unused hydroprocessing catalyst

Surplus or expired CoMo and NiMo stock

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Cobalt molybdenum catalyst and NiMo catalyst recycling FAQ

What mixed-metal hydroprocessing catalyst do you buy?

Spent CoMo and NiMo hydrotreating catalyst, NiW hydrocracking catalyst, graded bed loads with guard and active layers, catalyst rejected for regeneration, and unused or expired hydroprocessing catalyst.

Should we regenerate our CoMo catalyst or sell it?

Regeneration makes sense when the catalyst still has good activity and low metal contamination. Once it is fouled with vanadium, nickel or arsenic, or physically worn, recycling for its metals is usually the better option. We can buy regeneration rejects directly.

How is spent cobalt molybdenum catalyst priced?

Each payable metal, usually molybdenum, cobalt or nickel and vanadium, is valued against its market, then treatment costs for carbon, sulfur, oil, moisture and alumina are deducted. Your assay drives the offer, so Oryx asks for a representative sample analysis.

Can different catalyst types from one reactor be shipped together?

Yes, but it pays to keep layers separate where the unloading allows it, because a CoMo layer and a vanadium-heavy guard layer have different values. If the bed was unloaded together, we price the blend on assay.

How do refineries in Asia or the Middle East sell catalyst to Oryx?

Usually through a tender or a direct offer. We respond with a written offer per lot, agree Incoterms and container logistics, and arrange the permits needed to move spent catalyst between countries. Trading companies acting for refineries are welcome.

What is the Oryx approach to mixed-metal catalyst?

Some buyers pay only for molybdenum and ignore the cobalt, nickel and vanadium. Oryx Metals values every payable metal in your CoMo, NiMo or NiW catalyst, works with processors that recover them all, and plans logistics around your turnaround.
