Where spent tungsten catalyst comes from

Tungsten appears in two main catalyst families. Refineries use nickel-tungsten catalysts for hydrocracking and hydrotreating heavy feeds, and power plants, cement kilns and ships use titania-based SCR catalysts with tungsten and vanadium oxides to cut NOx emissions. Both are replaced on a cycle of a few years, and the spent tungsten catalyst still carries recoverable tungsten that refiners can return to the market.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

FAQs

Tungsten catalyst recycling: what plant operators ask

Which tungsten catalyst do you buy?

Spent nickel-tungsten hydrocracking and hydrotreating catalyst, honeycomb and plate SCR DeNOx catalyst containing tungsten and vanadium oxides, tungsten oxide catalysts on alumina, silica or titania, unused and off-spec catalyst, and catalyst fines and screenings.

Is SCR catalyst worth recycling for its tungsten?

It can be. SCR catalyst is mostly titania, with a few percent tungsten oxide and smaller amounts of vanadium. Value depends on volume and tungsten content, so send the catalyst type, the module count or tonnage and any analysis you have.

How is spent tungsten catalyst priced?

On the tungsten and any nickel or vanadium content, the carbon, sulfur and oil left from service, moisture, and the cost of handling the carrier, set against the tungsten market. Oryx sends a written offer based on your assay.

Do you need the catalyst to be regenerated or cleaned first?

No. We buy catalyst as it comes out of the reactor, including oily and sulfided material. Pyrophoric catalyst must be passivated or packed under nitrogen, and we confirm packing requirements before loading.

What documents do you need from a refinery or power plant?

An analysis or typical composition, the safety data sheet, the catalyst trade name and the tonnage and packaging. For cross-border shipments we arrange the waste or export permits your country requires.

How does Oryx Metals handle tungsten catalyst?

Tungsten catalysts are a small stream that general catalyst buyers often ignore or charge to dispose of. Oryx Metals values them for their tungsten, matches them to refiners that recover it and manages packing and permits, so a disposal cost can become a paid sale.
