Tantalum ore buyers who take traceability seriously

Tantalum and niobium are mined together in minerals such as tantalite, columbite and the mixed ore known as coltan, as well as from pegmatites and tin mining by-products. Concentrates are sold to processors that separate the two metals for capacitors, superalloys and steel. Because tantalum is a conflict mineral under US and EU rules, buyers and refiners require clear proof of origin and due diligence for every lot.

FORMS WE BUY

Tantalum and niobium ores and concentrates we buy

Dark, granular tantalite concentrate with metallic flecks piled in an industrial steel tray, showing fine mineral particles prepared for processing.

Tantalite concentrate

High Ta2O5 concentrates from hard rock mines

Large, angular black coltan ore rocks with metallic surfaces and brown mineral inclusions stored inside a white woven industrial sack.

Coltan

Mixed columbite-tantalite with full traceability

Crushed dark-gray columbite mineral rocks with angular surfaces and metallic reflections collected in a steel container for mineral processing.

Columbite concentrate

Niobium ore with tantalum by-product value

Mixed pegmatite concentrate containing pale quartz fragments and dark tantalum-niobium-bearing mineral rocks, collected for further processing.

Pegmatite concentrates

Ta-Nb concentrates from lithium and tin pegmatites

Wet, dark mineral granules and mixed processing residues containing fine particles and larger fragments inside an industrial separation tray.

Tin mining by-products

Ta-Nb bearing middlings from tin processing

Fine black synthetic mineral concentrate piled in a metal processing bin, showing a dense, powdery texture with small granular particles.

Synthetic concentrates

Upgraded Ta-Nb from slags and residues

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Tantalum ore and coltan buyers: FAQ for producers and traders

What tantalum ore and concentrate do you buy?

Tantalite and columbite concentrates, coltan, Ta-Nb concentrates from lithium and tin pegmatites, tantalum-bearing middlings from tin processing, and synthetic concentrates upgraded from slags and residues.

What assay do you need for tantalum concentrate?

Ta2O5 and Nb2O5 content, plus tin, iron, manganese, titanium, tungsten and the radioactive elements uranium and thorium (U3O8 + ThO2). Moisture and particle size help too. An independent assay is preferred.

How is tantalum ore priced?

Concentrates are priced per pound or kilogram of contained Ta2O5, with grade scales, niobium value where payable, and penalties for radioactivity and impurities, against the tantalum market. Oryx makes each offer from your assay and lot size.

Do coltan buyers need conflict minerals documentation?

Yes. We require origin information, chain of custody records and due diligence in line with OECD guidance, and we do not buy from sources that cannot be verified. This protects you, us and the refiners downstream.

How are tantalum concentrates shipped?

Usually in sealed drums or big bags in containers, with radioactivity measured and declared before shipment. We agree Incoterms, inspection, sampling at the destination and payment terms in the written offer.

Why sell tantalum and niobium concentrates to Oryx Metals?

Tantalum is one of Oryx Metals’ core metals in both scrap and ore form. We work with processors that accept traceable concentrates, guide producers through due diligence and offer transparent grade-based pricing for each lot.
