Collected workshop sweeps containing fine metal filings, polishing dust, worn buffing wheels, and contaminated abrasive materials in industrial recycling bins.

Precious metal sweeps hold metal you have already paid for

Every workshop that works with gold, silver, platinum or palladium loses a little metal into dust, filings and polishing waste. Over time, floor and bench sweeps, vacuum bags, carpets, filters and wash water build up into material worth recovering. Precious metal sweeps are processed by incineration, milling and sampling, then assayed, so the owner is paid for the metal that escaped production.

FORMS WE BUY

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Precious metal sweeps and jewelry sweeps FAQ

What precious metal sweeps do you buy?

Floor and bench sweeps, polishing dust, wheels and buffs, extraction filters and vacuum bags, workshop carpets and mats, used crucibles and furnace linings, and jewelry sweeps from manufacturing and repair. Material from dental labs, electronics assembly and refining is also welcome.

How are sweeps sampled and assayed?

Sweeps are usually burned to remove organic material, then milled and blended to a uniform powder. A representative sample is taken and fire-assayed for gold, silver, platinum and palladium. You can ask for a split sample to check the result.

How is a sweeps lot paid?

On the assayed precious metal content times agreed payable rates, valued at the metal prices on the agreed date, less processing and refining charges. Charges are higher for sweeps than for solid scrap, because of the processing involved. Oryx confirms all terms in writing.

Is there a minimum quantity for jewelry sweeps?

Processing costs mean very small lots may not be worth handling alone. Many workshops collect sweeps for a year before selling. Tell us roughly what you have and we will advise whether to send now or keep collecting.

Can you handle sweeps from refiners and electronics plants?

Yes. Larger industrial sweeps from refiners, plating lines and electronics assembly are a regular stream. We agree sampling and settlement terms in advance and can schedule collections.

Why sell sweeps through Oryx Metals?

With sweeps, processing and sampling decide almost everything. Oryx Metals agrees the method before shipping, uses refiners with proper sweeps processing and offers split samples, so you can see that what you were paid matches the metal you sent.
