Recycled molybdenum goes straight back into industry

Molybdenum keeps its strength at very high temperatures, which makes it the metal of choice for vacuum furnace hot zones, glass melting electrodes, EDM wire, semiconductor sputtering targets and alloy steels. Furnace rebuilds, machining and target use all produce molybdenum scrap, and clean pure molybdenum can be returned to powder and new mill products, so recycled molybdenum saves both mining and energy.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Molybdenum recycling questions and answers

Which molybdenum scrap is accepted for molybdenum recycling?

Pure molybdenum sheet, plate, rod and machined parts, furnace hot zone components, TZM and Mo-La alloys, EDM and other molybdenum wire, spent sputtering targets, turnings, grindings and powder. Moly-bearing steels and spent catalysts are handled on their own pages.

How can I tell molybdenum from tungsten or stainless steel?

Molybdenum is heavier than steel but much lighter than tungsten, and it is non-magnetic. Furnace parts are often molybdenum or tungsten, and both can look the same after use. An XRF reading will tell you, and we can help read it.

What drives the molybdenum scrap price?

Purity, form and contamination, set against the molybdenum market. Clean solids and sheet earn the most, followed by alloys and wire, then turnings and oxidised or mixed material. Furnace parts with tungsten or ceramic attached need sorting. Oryx quotes on each lot’s analysis.

Do you buy used furnace hot zones?

Yes. Vacuum furnace rebuilds are a common source of molybdenum scrap. Send photos of the shields and elements and a rough weight. Mixed molybdenum and tungsten hot zones can be sorted and paid on each metal.

Can Oryx collect molybdenum scrap from overseas plants?

Yes. We buy molybdenum scrap from heat treaters, glass plants and target users in North America, Europe and Asia, agree delivery terms in the written offer and handle export documents.

Why do sellers choose Oryx Metals for molybdenum scrap?

Molybdenum recycling has been one of Oryx Metals’ core activities for years. We sort mixed furnace scrap into its metals, pay clean molybdenum as molybdenum rather than as mixed refractory metal, and send it to refiners that turn it back into powder and mill products.
