Filter cake recycling recovers metals from process filtration

Filter presses in refineries, chemical plants, plating lines and wastewater treatment concentrate solids into cakes, and those cakes often carry metals from the process: nickel, cobalt, copper, molybdenum, vanadium, tin or precious metals. Compared with liquid sludge, filter cake has less water and a higher metal grade, which makes it a good candidate for recycling instead of disposal.

FORMS WE BUY

Filter cakes we buy

Thick green-gray metal-bearing filter cakes collected in a stainless steel container beside an industrial filter press at a hydrometallurgical processing facility.

Hydrometallurgical cakes

Leach and precipitation cakes with Ni, Co or Cu

Large blocks of compressed gray wastewater filter cake stored in an industrial collection bin beside a plate-and-frame filter press.

Plating filter cakes

Pressed cakes from plating wastewater

Broken dark gray and black chemical process filter cakes mixed with granular residues inside a steel container at an industrial processing plant.

Chemical process cakes

Catalyst and chemical production cakes

Circular dark gray pressed filter cakes with rough edges stored in stainless steel trays inside an industrial metal recovery facility.

Precious metal cakes

Cakes containing gold, silver or PGMs

Large compressed gray metallic filter cakes with cracked surfaces and broken fragments stacked on industrial pallets inside a processing facility.

Refractory metal cakes

Cakes with molybdenum, tungsten or vanadium

Used industrial filter cloths and pleated cartridge filters coated with dark metal-bearing sludge and residues on a maintenance workbench.

Filter media

Used filter cloths and cartridges with metal

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Filter cake recycling: what plant managers ask

Which filter cakes can go to filter cake recycling?

Hydrometallurgical leach and precipitation cakes, plating and wastewater filter cakes, chemical and catalyst production cakes, precious metal cakes, cakes containing molybdenum, tungsten or vanadium, and used filter cloths and cartridges loaded with metal.

What analysis do you need for a filter cake?

The metal content on a dry basis, moisture, and key impurities such as sulfur, chlorine, arsenic, lead and cadmium. A safety data sheet or a description of the process helps us choose the right refiner.

How is filter cake priced?

On the payable metals in the dry cake, less processing costs, impurity penalties and moisture. Higher-grade cakes with one dominant metal command better terms. Oryx makes each offer from your analysis and volume.

Do you accept filter cake classed as hazardous waste?

Often, yes, provided the refiner is licensed for it and the export or transport permits are in place. We check the classification for your country and route and arrange the paperwork.

How do we start selling filter cake to Oryx?

Send the analysis, moisture, monthly or annual volume, packaging and photos. We reply with questions or a written offer and, once agreed, plan regular collections around your production.

Why choose Oryx Metals for filter cake?

Filter cakes are usually treated as waste because few buyers look past the label. Oryx Metals evaluates each cake for its recoverable metals, finds refiners that can process it and handles permits, so filter cake becomes a sale rather than a disposal line in your budget.
