Platinum recycling from industrial equipment and lab use
Platinum is used where heat, corrosion and precision meet: platinum-rhodium bushings that spin glass fibre, thermocouples in furnaces, crucibles and labware, sensors, medical devices and electrodes. These parts wear out or are replaced, but they keep nearly all of their platinum. Platinum recycling returns that value to the owner and puts the metal back into production.

FAQs
Platinum recycling and platinum scrap price questions
What platinum scrap can go to platinum recycling?
Platinum-rhodium glass fibre bushings, Type R, S and B thermocouple wire, crucibles and labware, sensors, RTDs and electrodes, platinum sheet and wire, and platinum-bearing refractories, sweeps and filters. Platinum catalysts are covered on our PGM Catalyst page.
Are used glass furnace refractories worth sampling for platinum?
Often. Bricks and refractories from under platinum bushings and glass melt equipment can pick up platinum over years of service. A sample assay tells you whether they are worth processing.
What sets the platinum scrap price?
The assayed platinum and rhodium content, the form, the platinum and rhodium prices on the agreed date, and refining charges. Solid alloys like bushings and thermocouple wire earn better terms than residues. Oryx gives a written offer with all terms stated.
Do you buy platinum labware from universities and labs?
Yes. Damaged crucibles, dishes and electrodes from labs and universities are welcome. Small lots can be weighed and assayed individually, and we confirm the process before shipping.
How do glass fibre producers sell old bushings to Oryx?
Most producers sell bushings and alloy at each rebuild. We agree sampling, assay and settlement terms in advance, collect the material, and pay by wire, or agree metal return terms where you need the metal back.
Why choose Oryx Metals for platinum scrap?
With platinum, a fraction of a percent in assay or recovery changes the result. Oryx Metals agrees transparent sampling and assay terms, works with established PGM refiners and pays for rhodium as well as platinum, so you are paid for everything in the alloy.
