Ruthenium recycling for electronics and chemical plants

Ruthenium is used in hard disk drive layers and semiconductor interconnects through sputtering, in ruthenium oxide paste for chip resistors, in coatings on titanium anodes for chlor-alkali plants and in chemical catalysts. Spent targets, anode coatings and paste waste all hold recoverable ruthenium, and because supply comes as a by-product of platinum mining, recycling is an important source.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Ruthenium recycling questions from electronics and chemical sellers

What ruthenium scrap do you buy for ruthenium recycling?

Spent ruthenium sputtering targets, ruthenium-coated titanium anodes, ruthenium oxide resistor paste and screens, ruthenium powder, coated chamber shields, and ruthenium-bearing residues and catalysts.

Do spent ruthenium targets still contain much ruthenium?

Yes. Only part of a target is consumed in sputtering, so spent targets keep a large share of their ruthenium. Bonded targets are accepted, and the backing plate is accounted for in the offer.

How is ruthenium scrap valued?

On assayed ruthenium content and any other platinum group metals, the ruthenium price on the agreed date and refining charges. Ruthenium refining is specialised, so charges differ from platinum and palladium. Oryx sets out terms in a written offer.

How are ruthenium-coated anodes different from iridium anodes?

Chlor-alkali anodes usually carry ruthenium-rich coatings, while oxygen-evolving anodes rely more on iridium. Many coatings contain both. We price each anode type on its actual coating, so send the application and photos.

Can a Japanese trading company sell ruthenium targets through Oryx?

Yes. We work with trading companies that collect spent targets from storage media and semiconductor plants, provide written offers for internal approval, and handle export documentation and logistics.

Why sell ruthenium scrap to Oryx Metals?

Few scrap buyers handle ruthenium, and many treat it as a minor by-product. Oryx Metals values ruthenium on its own, works with refiners that specialise in it and gives you transparent sampling and assay terms before anything ships.
