Precious metal catalyst recycling recovers platinum, palladium and rhodium

Precious metal catalysts are used where only the most active metals will do: palladium on carbon in pharmaceutical and fine chemical hydrogenation, platinum and platinum-rhenium on alumina in refinery reforming and isomerisation, and rhodium and platinum in chemical processes and gauze. These catalysts are expensive to buy, so recovering their palladium, platinum and rhodium when they are spent returns most of that value to the plant.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Precious metal catalyst recycling: palladium and platinum catalyst FAQ

Which precious metal catalysts do you buy?

Palladium on carbon and palladium on alumina, platinum and platinum-rhenium reforming catalyst, platinum isomerisation catalyst, platinum-rhodium gauze and catchment from nitric acid plants, and rhodium or palladium-bearing homogeneous catalyst residues.

How much palladium needs to be in spent Pd/C for palladium catalyst recycling?

Pd/C usually starts with a few percent palladium and keeps most of it after use, so even small drums can be worth recycling. Lower loadings are still recoverable with enough volume. Send the original loading and the wet weight.

How is a PGM catalyst offer worked out?

The precious metal content is measured by assay after the lot is sampled, then valued against the platinum, palladium or rhodium market less refining charges and agreed recovery rates. Moisture, carbon and solvent content affect the dry weight. Oryx sets these terms out in writing before shipment.

Is wet Pd/C safe to transport?

Pd/C must be kept water-wet, because dry palladium on carbon can ignite solvent vapours or self-heat. It ships in sealed containers as dangerous goods. We confirm packing and documents for your route.

Can you handle palladium recovery from spent catalyst for a pharmaceutical plant?

Yes. We work with pharmaceutical and fine chemical producers on single lots and regular campaigns, provide written terms that procurement and EHS teams can approve, and track each lot from collection through assay to settlement.

Why choose Oryx Metals for PGM catalyst recycling?

With precious metals, small differences in sampling, assay and refining terms change the outcome. Oryx Metals sets out sampling, assay and settlement terms clearly up front, works with established PGM refiners and keeps you informed at each step from collection to payment.
