Niobium recycling keeps a critical metal in use

Most niobium goes into steel as ferroniobium, but pure niobium and its alloys are used in rocket and jet engine parts, superconducting magnets for MRI scanners and particle accelerators, sputtering targets and optical coatings. Fabrication and decommissioning of these products produce sheet offcuts, wire, turnings and alloy scrap. Primary niobium comes from very few mines, so niobium recycling helps buyers secure a steadier supply.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Niobium recycling: what sellers ask about niobium scrap

What niobium scrap qualifies for niobium recycling?

Niobium sheet, foil, rod and tube, niobium alloys such as C-103 and Nb-1Zr, Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn superconducting wire, spent sputtering targets, turnings and powder, and ferroniobium fines or off-spec material.

Is superconducting wire scrap worth recycling?

Yes, although the niobium sits inside a copper matrix with titanium or tin. The value is in the combined metals, and we price it on the share of niobium, copper and other elements. Send a cross-section photo or spec sheet if you have one.

What is niobium scrap worth?

The niobium scrap price depends on purity, form and alloy. High-purity niobium sheet and C-103 offcuts earn the most, while mixed turnings, wire with a copper matrix and ferroniobium fines are worth less per kilogram. Oryx quotes every lot on its analysis.

Can niobium and tantalum scrap be shipped together?

They can, but keep them separate and labelled if you can. Tantalum is worth more, and a mixed lot is often priced at the lower value. If your material is already mixed, send an analysis and we will price it on the actual split.

How does selling niobium scrap to Oryx work?

Send photos, the alloy or grade, weight and analysis by email, WhatsApp or WeChat. We send a written offer, agree delivery, verify weight and grade on arrival, and pay by wire. We buy from sellers in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Why sell niobium scrap to Oryx Metals?

Few scrap buyers know the difference between C-103 and ferroniobium, and fewer have refiners for both. Oryx Metals specialises in minor metals, works with the refiners that process each form of niobium, and pays on what your scrap actually contains.
