Where gallium scrap comes from and why it’s worth recovering

Almost all gallium goes into compound semiconductors: gallium arsenide for RF chips and solar cells, gallium nitride for LEDs and power electronics, and CIGS thin-film solar. Production of these devices generates broken wafers, kerf, polishing slurries and spent targets that still hold recoverable gallium. Primary gallium supply is concentrated in very few countries, which makes gallium recycling from industrial scrap an important second source.

HOW minor metals are PRICED

Oryx Metals makes scrap recycling easy and profitable

There's no single scrap price for minor metals. The same metal can come as clean solids or contaminated powder, and its value per kg can differ many times over. Every Oryx offer is based on your material's analysis, form and the market on the day.

How our pricing works
Highest value

Clean, high-purity solids

Uncontaminated pieces, offcuts, ingots and production rejects

Mid-Range

Coated or alloyed scrap

Coated parts, alloys, turnings and mixed solids

Priced on content

Powders, sludges & residues

Value depends on metal %, contamination and moisture

FAQs

Gallium recycling FAQ for semiconductor and electronics scrap

Which materials can go to gallium recycling?

Gallium arsenide and gallium nitride wafers, LED and laser diode production scrap, spent CIGS and other gallium-bearing sputtering targets, off-spec gallium metal, and residues such as polishing sludge, kerf and etch waste from wafer fabs.

How much gallium does my scrap need to contain?

There is no single cut-off. GaAs wafers are roughly half gallium by weight and are straightforward to recycle, while sludges and residues can be economic at much lower grades if the volume is there. Send an analysis or a description of the process the material came from and we will tell you if it can be recycled.

Is GaAs scrap hazardous to ship?

Gallium arsenide contains arsenic, so it needs proper packing, labelling and documents, and some residues are regulated as hazardous waste depending on the country. We tell you what is required for your material and route before anything moves.

How is gallium scrap priced?

On gallium content, the type of material, any arsenic or other elements the refiner must handle, and the gallium market on the day. Clean wafer scrap and gallium metal earn more than mixed sludges. Oryx quotes each lot on its analysis, never from a generic price list.

Can a trading company sell gallium scrap to Oryx on behalf of a manufacturer?

Yes. We regularly work with trading companies that collect scrap from fabs and electronics plants. We send a written offer with clear terms that you can take through your own approval process, and we can handle export and customs from Asia, Europe or the Americas.

What makes Oryx Metals a good fit for gallium recycling?

Gallium scrap is small in volume and technical to handle, so most scrap buyers pass on it. Oryx Metals specialises in minor metals and works directly with refiners that process GaAs, GaN and gallium residues. That lets us price your material on what it actually contains and handle the paperwork that arsenic-bearing scrap needs.
